Customer data requests

Shopify sends SleekPass a request when a customer asks your store for a copy of their personal data. SleekPass prepares only the data it stores for that customer and makes the export available in the app. Shopify and other installed apps handle the data they store separately. SleekPass Home shows up to three recent requests and links to the complete Customer data requests page at the bottom.

Only the store owner or a staff member explicitly authorized to handle privacy requests should use this export.

For Shopify’s explanation of when these requests are used and how merchants initiate them, refer to Processing customer data requests.

  1. In Shopify admin, open Apps, then open SleekPass.
  2. On SleekPass Home, select Review customer data requests in an actionable notice, or scroll to the bottom Customer data requests card and select View all requests.
  3. In the requests table, locate the row with Ready status and note its deadline and reference.
  4. Confirm that you are the store owner or your store’s authorized privacy responder. If you are not, stop and ask the store owner to complete these steps.
  5. On that row, select Download.
  6. Confirm that your browser downloads a JSON file named sleekpass-customer-data-<reference>.json. If no file downloads, stop and do not mark the request as delivered.
  7. Confirm that the row status changes to Downloaded.
  8. Transfer the file to the requesting customer using your store’s approved secure privacy-response process. Do not paste the file into a public ticket or unencrypted chat.

After the first download, the row shows Download again during the short retention window. Downloaded exports are erased after seven days. Any remaining export is erased at the 30-day Shopify deadline. The ordinary recent-request row remains on Home during that window, but the needs-attention notice disappears.

Each Shopify request has its own row. Work from the earliest deadline at the top of the table:

  • Ready — download and securely deliver that row’s export.
  • Needs retry — retry that row once, then wait for it to return to Ready.
  • Preparing — no action is required while SleekPass prepares the export.
  • Downloaded — the export was already accessed and remains available through Download again only during its retention window.
  1. In Shopify admin, open Apps > SleekPass.
  2. On SleekPass Home, select Review customer data requests in the needs-attention notice.
  3. Locate the row with Needs retry status and select Retry once.
  4. Confirm that the row changes to Preparing. When it changes to Ready, follow the download procedure above.
  5. If Needs retry returns or the deadline is within three days, stop retrying and email [email protected] with the visible request reference. Do not send customer names, email addresses, Shopify customer IDs, or export files in the support message.

If Shopify sends customer or shop redaction before the export is downloaded, SleekPass erases the export. The privacy deletion takes precedence and the file is no longer available.
